Some of the trades in Canada have what they call Red Seal certifications. I think it's only Canada. I thought I heard it's supposed to be better pay and job opportunities, but I'm not an expert on Canada

I expect you have something very similar in the USA.

The Red Seal Program, formally known as the Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Program, is a program that sets common standards to assess the skills of tradespeople across Canada. Industry is heavily involved in developing the national standard for each trade. It is a partnership between the federal government and provinces and territories, which are responsible for apprenticeship training and trade certification in their jurisdictions.

Tradespersons who have successfully passed the Red Seal examination receive a Red Seal endorsement on their provincial/territorial trade certificate. The Red Seal, when affixed to a provincial or territorial trade certificate, indicates that a tradesperson has demonstrated the knowledge required for the national standard in that trade. The Red Seal endorsement promotes excellence to employers, instills pride in skilled workers, and facilitates labour mobility. Certification and Red Seal endorsement of a tradesperson can be confirmed with the provincial or territorial apprenticeship authority that issued the Red Seal.

The Red Seal Program was created following the first National Conference on Apprenticeship in Trades and Industries, which was held in Ottawa in 1952. Participants recommended that the provinces and territories ask the federal government to work with their apprenticeship committees and officials to prepare standards for the skilled trades.

I like it. Too bad there is nothing like this in the US. The trades are dying and people don't seem to get it that without people in the trades there would be nothing. No plumbing, electrical, transportation, nothing. Lets see what happens then

The US has welder certification for position, weld, material, etc. It may not have a fancy name like Red Seal, but it exists. There are volumes of reg's on it.

Cool shirt!

The only welding cert I'm familiar with for the USA is "certified overhead structural", from when I was doing stage rigging, concert rigging, and theatre renovations.

I’m currently in welding school thru US Steel, I just got thru my 6G program! It was a serious effort, I’ve got all my F series complete and will be going back for tig/ mig.. I always been able to mig but if you want to send me .. and pay me well I’m in! My welds are X-ray tested and destruction tested... A lot were open groove welds , I’m shooting for a structural welder cert . It’s awesome to hear someone else is welder by trade too! Congratulations to him it’s something to be very proud of!

I am proud of him. He's only 25 and he is a terrific welder. Young kid with a serious work ethic.

And good luck to you at welding school.

So good to hear... Blue collar jobs are still a good way to live! And you can learn a lot!

Too right! Try to get a skilled trade right now to do some work and everyone I know is backed up for months.
