The fuel gauge in my 69 road runner is off by almost 1/4 tank. It will read 3/4 full when I have the tank completely full. Then of course it will show empty when in fact I still have around 1/4 tank of fuel. I was thinking I could remove the float assembly and bend the rod up just a little to compensate for the inaccurate reading. Have any of you tried this and will it work? Thanks!

I just replaced my tank and put a brand new sending unit in that came with the tank .the old unit was like yours 1/4 tank off the brand new unit is 1/2 tank off.I just fill up when it reaches empty,I am going to pull it and try bending the pickup tube I heard that that is what you want to adjust instead of the float arm,new sending unit looked cheesy, probably made in taiwan or mexico, its hard to find quality parts for these cars,I just bought a chrome dip stick and tube because mine was broken at the bottom (found that out replaceing the left side motor mount) new dip stick is longer than the original, its a quart off so when it reads full you are going to be a quart low and full level is past full mark and it was made in taiwan, and also not the easiest to install had to do alittle bending so it wouldnt hit the powere steering line connection,I have access to a gas caddy to drain the tank and re fill it so taking the tank down again isnt a big deal but dont you love doing things twice.

my 70 road runner does the same thing......even tho i rebuilt the dash.....i just learned to live with it

FYI those repop sending units are notorious for being off. You test the unit before putting it in using an ohm meter as I think the FSM has the proper readings in it.

Yes, I had read how to test and that the repops are notorious for inaccuracies but will bending the float slightly upward allowing more travel for a full reading give a more accurate reading for my application? Seems logical but will work?
