Fuel sending unit leaking.

I thought the girl at the gas station was checking out my car, now I'm pretty sure she was just noticing the gas pouring out of my sending unit :/.

I put a new gasket on and used a punch to move the tabs to what I thought were seated. yesterday I was checking my suspension and noticed a small amount of fuel was still leaking out when I pushed up on the frame. I've got another new gasket on the way and a supposedly higher quality lock ring (I tossed the old one which I know now was a mistake)

Do you guys use hylomar blue or indian head or anything to seal these? I saw some people use 3/16 thick cork gaskets and some make a cardboard spacer because the new lock rings are garbage. I'm also going to gently bend the sock down a little on the sending unit when I pull it because it wasn't getting gas until I had 7 gallons in. Any ideas or tips? Thanks in advance.

I've never used a sealer on the sending unit o-ring it's just making it sit in the position you want it to while you get the locking ring in place to get it started a little tricky

Yea I'd much prefer a bolt on flange style. I'm going to weld some patch panels in while I have the tank out this time. So I have a few weeks before returning to that headache.

Personally got tired of all of the quick fixes that supposedly worked for others, mine kept leaking, gets old doing it over and over again, hoping. So I sealed mine with a fuel tank sealer that I used to seal the seams in the fuel tanks of an airplane that I built. It's called Pro Seal, may be under other names. Aircraft Spruce carries it. If you ever have to go back in, a heat gun will soften it. Had the same problem with two new fuel tanks in different cars, they don't leak anymore.

The last time I did this the gasket that came with the sender wouldn't quite fit under the lock ring and I ended up using another new one I had stashed.

It can be very aggravating to work on some of these cars due to the quality of the parts and the way they've even changed rubbers I've seen synthetic rubbers shrink so don't be surprised if you compare your O-rings and find that they're different sizes that's why it's crazy nowadays when you're trying to buy and fix for these cars
