Fuel Tank Venting 68 Super Bee - Raw Fuel Smell in Cabin While Driving

Hi all,

Getting the smell of raw fuel in my 68 Super Bee while driving. I read the thread at Garage stench after parking car - does non-ethanol help?. that seems to discuss the smell when sitting in the garage.

I have two vents on the tank next to each other. The one on the left (facing the rear of the car) vents upward over the shock mount and vents to the atmosphere. The one on the right is a steel line that goes up into the trunk, goes to the right side of the car and back down through the trunk and seemingly on top of (or into) the frame rail.

I do not see any fuel seepage anywhere on the car, but wondering if there might be a pin hole or something in the trunk vent line that I cannot see or evaporates before I can locate it.

Can I simply tee the two vent lines together and vent them to the atmosphere? Other thoughts?

Replace filler neck gasket. It will help.

I think this vent design is susceptible to the capillary effect. The easy fix is always have less than a half tank of gas. There's a company that sells a vapor feedback component that supposedly eliminates this issue. They advertise in the Hagerty magazine. I can get that information for you later tonight.

Something is seriously off in that picture of the vent tubes, that should look like so...

are you using a vented or non vented gas cap? my gas cap vent was clogged up and small. enlarged it and also retighted all my fuel line screw clamps. had a leak there behind the rear axle. fixed and done

Filler neck cap should be NON vented.

I think they are the same. The left vent on mine goes into what looks like a fuel filter…maybe it’s a charcoal filter? Was on the car when I got it. Then vents to the atmosphere. I would think this vent would be the culprit as it vents outside the car.

The right vent goes into the trunk then back out at the frame rail.

Mine just have funky hoses off the vents.

Non vented. I think that’s correct given the fuel tank vents??

i keep forgetting my 69 coronet has the filler in the back and its not the fender fill like my Charger.
