I installed a new carpet in my 64.

Gas pedal requires a section of the carpet, along with the upper right corner of the sewn in rubber pad, to be cut out.

I know the threads under the floor are used to hold a bracket or two, but I already secured those items, speedo maybe, and something else I can't recall.

The plan is to drive this, and the last thing I want to do is cut a big hole in new carpet/rubber pad, and create a path for any potential moisture to create rust.

Heck, my original gas pedal rotted and the rust split the rubber and rendered it useless garbage.

Tried going without a pedal but every so often the little white plastic wheel catches a tread in my shoe.

Is there a pedal that fits the existing rod and just hangs off of it?

Or another way to mount the re-pop gas pedal?

Use one out of a 68-70 C body or Cordoba They are a hanging style that still uses the cable, Also Ram p/us have them also! I have one in my 65 Ply. race car!

86 Ram
69 c-body
81-93 Ram

Ram ones from ebay look identical.

These might be a direct bolt on, I'll take a closer look at mine.

I keep thinking there's a pedal out there that will slip on where the little plastic wheel is currently.

What kind of 64? Bs, think their all the same. Guess you know, there's several places that offer the correct (repo) pedals.
On the bottom of the mounting pad, there's a smaller area w/studs, with the hole in the carpet, and seals the way it's made. Yeah, hole cut in the carpet, for the smaller area, outer edges flush with the carpet.
Bracket underneath the floor pan, mounts speedo, and park brake cable housings. That's on my 64 Ply.

I did not cut a hole in the carpet of my 65. Just two small holes for the studs and it bolted in.

I cut a small area in my heel pad that's about the size of the bottom of the gas pedal (the small rectangle the studs are on). Fit right in with no issues. Crawled under the car with a sharp Phillips head screwdriver and pressed up into the carpet to poke through to mark where the studs go, then measured out a square and cut it with a sharp knife. Easy to do, but man was I sweating when I did because I didn't wanna mess it up.

My original carpet, in the first pic, was cut straight through. The bottom of the pedal sticks down into the hole.
I don't think I can get away with just cutting the pad with the carpet and padding under it, plus not sure if the pad is in the 'correct' spot.

At this point, I don't want to cut anything, I like the different pedal setup better.

Unless I can find a pedal to fit the existing rod (old pic).

Pretty much what I did, years ago, went by how the old came out, carpet cut or no. Got dangerous, assumed the rubber base against the floor pan would actually seal.
Like already said, best start, from underneath, locate stud holes in the carpet, and go from there.
