Hey team,
My 70 RR never had the carpet in it when I got it, I’ve had some conflicting answers to this, based on the shape of the base of the gas pedal I need to cut a small rectangular hole in the carpet so the base of the gas pedal can bolt down properly etc, question is, is the hole just outside the rubber insert (top right corner) or is it cut through the corner of the rubber mat insert? What did the factory do?????
My preference is to go just slightly outside of the rubber mat through the carpet

Cut through the upper right corner of rubber pad and carpet.
The hole is like a 2”x1” so are you saying half of the hole goes through the edge of the rubber mat insert the other is through the carpet?

Picture is original carpet.....

^^^ the way it should be! That said, repro carpet in the Bee 1988 and Bird 1990 and both ended up just forward of the rubber thanks the manufacturer. Don't think much as changed.

Fit the carpet to the tunnel and floor, then mark where the 2 holes from underneath car.

1 wild RT shows how it should be.

Below are 2 photos of factory carpet and how it goes at the pedal and column.
There is a round hole for the pedal arm, and the cut is a straight cut with no material removed.

Thanks heaps for that

And be aware, the heel pad on repo carpets isn't always positioned where it belongs.... I have a new carpet I pulled out of its box a few weeks ago, the heel pad is probably 12" rearward, just in front of the drivers seat..... New carpet should be here tomorrow....

Yeah, I have found problems with heel pad placement on carpet, too. It's like nobody gives a $hit anymore. Certainly a crummy Q.C. process at the carpet company.

Thanks guys, fortunately mine seems to be reasonably ok

I more or less force fit my carpet into a fairly close configuration but it would have been happier positioned about an inch or inch and half further back. It’s bunched a little around the tunnel but the console hides most of it.

Edit: I think I got confused on my pictures - the above is my old carpet (old repro). I don’t seem to have taken a real good picture of the new but I think it’s similar after crowding the carpet forward a little.

This. BEFORE you cut anything, get your carpet and accelerator pedal aligned as good as you can. I almost guarantee your ACC carpet won't have the heel pad in the correct position, this has been a common complaint for a long time. In my '70 Charger, this is the best I could manage, and this is with cutting up over an inch from the leading edge, and shoving the carpet forward as much as it could go. Any more forward and nothing would've fit right with the way the carpet was molded, to the trans tunnel, rockers, rear seat ledge, etc. So if you cut that rectangle BEFORE positioning your accelerator pedal, you might regret it.

Best Source for forward section Carpet?

My 69 GTX. Heel pad locations are all over the place. View attachment 2026745
I'd have been thrilled if my heel pad were that close... Mine is/was literally back close to the seat....
The car I'm building I bought all the interior as a package back in 2005.. At the time ACC was cutting carpets really close (read short) so the general consensus was buy Trim Parts carpet.... Well, there's plenty of excess... To bad I can't use it... New ACC carpet showed up yesterday... I'll get a good look at it this week...
Best Source for forward section Carpet?
I just bought ACC from Rock Auto... Bought the upgraded sound/heat barrier type listed as "Mass Backing"..

More Information for ACC 1087232

Dennis, be aware the four speed with the shifter hump adds a certain amount to difficultly to getting the carpet installed... It needs to be tight up against the hump, all the other positioning cues are secondary....
