Are any of you guys running a Gear venders unit with a 3500 ish or even higher converter?. My 64' has 4.10 gears with a 29.5" rear tire and i'm toying with the idea of getting a Gear Venders but i'm not so it would work well with that high of a stall speed. I haven't bough either the converter or overdrive yet. G.v.'s website states that it's doable but i'm worried about heat build up.

I'm running a GV behind a 727 driven with a Dynamic 9 1/2" converter ahead of 4.30:1 gears. It works well!

Mike, no issues with trans heating up ?. Are you running a separate trans cooler or extra deep pan?.

I ran GV with 4.56 gear, 30" tire & 3000 stall, had a deep pan & Trans cooler with a fan, never ran hot on the street , at the track it did, but it cooled off with in 15~20 minutes

        I had a combination that was similar and it S U C K E D !!!
In overdrive at 55-65, the throttle response was terrible.

Kern Dog, did you have a G.V. or was it an o.d. trans?. If you had a G.V. do you think it was the unit being sluggish or was it more likely the combo ?

Both. Steel deep pan and small auxiliary cooler, through cooler, then radiator.

I had a 9 3/4" converter that was great at WOT and okay at cruising speed when the GV wasn't engaged. Once the GV was engaged, the rpms did drop as expected but the throttle response was really soggy. It felt like a boat on the water where the rate of acceleration lagged after pressing the gas pedal. I can't blame the GV entirely, it was the combination. I read that there are converters that react better well below their stall speed rating....mine was NOT one of them!

Thanks for the info, anything i can learn to do or not to do will be a big help in getting the combo right.
