I’ve never done HAN. But I’m retiring in spring 2022, so I’m going to HAN, hell or high water.

I’ve spent some time googling around, looking at maps, and reading the events from this year’s show. Having trouble determining where the better places to stay are, as there seems to be lots of sponsor casino hotels, with distance between them. For example, looks like drag racing and burnouts happen at the Nugget; can you even get in there if you’re not registered at that hotel? An acquaintance of mine who's been many times always goes to the Peppermill - but looking at the map, it’s not in the old downtown, which I presume is the best place to see it all?

For those that have been, where do you stay, and why? I’d be trailering a car down.

Cherry Tour? does that mean you will be busting your cherry or your car will be cherry by then?

Been to Hot August Nights many years now, and stay at my good buddies home lately, except 7 years ago when I took my family, and we stayed at the Peppermill. It was a great hotel then, and likely still is. I’ll ask him tomorrow, what the better hotels are, and respond here.

Reno isn't that big of a city so getting from one place to another is no biggie. Plenty of good hotels to stay at.
Drag racing is open to everyone but they do charge an entrance fee. Like 15.00 a head.
Lots of action going on all over the city. Downtown and Sparks have shows during the day and cruses at night. Peppermill and GS have their own shows. GS has around 1000 cars just in their lot. Lots if little shows going on too. On Friday night the Mopars meet at the A&W in north Sparks.
Plan on spending a few days and traveling around checking out all the different happenings.
The show actually starts in Carson City the first weekend then everyone migrates up to Reno for the 2nd weekend. 10 days of fun. Virginia City is a must do.

My sis lives in the CC area, so should I decide to do HAN in '22, it's easy for me.

  • Peppermill, clean and on top of the events.
  • Atlantis, on top of the events.
  • Nugget, not as centrally located.
  • Grand Sierra. Not as good of a room but again in the middle of the event. Can drink and watch cars then stumble to their room.
2022 will start in Virginia City with the main event in Sparks/Reno.

Weather and smoke from fires vary year to year. Stayed at Hampton south of town. No trailer though others did. 100 degrees, 5 thousand feet, and 5 minute red lights convinced me to get efi. Linda got on a SW Jet and flew home early. Smart to start your early research here. Regulars hog good parking by about 3 in the morning. Had a good time anyway. Friday was now defunct A and W Mopar Cruise. Probably new location this year. Done it all. Virginia City, Summit Cruise, etc. Good people and fun gig.

I live in Reno so the Peppermill is the bomb when it comes accommodations. Funny though that I have a collector car, I have still yet to attend HAN. I am not good anymore with crowds as I age so I choose to just hang out here at home. My neighbor next door is a Reno PD Officer and works the venue annually. Mandatory OT for them. The last 2 years according to him have been really weak in attendance and participation because of the current crap on going. In years past, it became nothing but low riders and tweeker cars and the rif raff that went along with it really soured it for many. The plus to all this is even though I reside here, I still get to see an abundance of really cool cars and such cruising about town as I am out and about...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

Haven't gone in years now
used to go all the time

But;
I stayed in Incline village usually, company condo
drive over
or my Truck & trailer at an RV park, there's several
in the Tahoe, North Shore all the way to Carson Valley areas too
I don't remember the names off hand

or some Casinos also have RV parking too

if you want to get a room you better get on it
most are filled by now
especially after a year of Wuhan Flu BS,
people are itching to get out

good luck & have fun

Posted what I took here: Hot August Nights Reno I don’t take many anymore as I’ve got so many.

I ended up staying at the Peppermill, but really, I found out the whole town is dedicated and lots of good places to stay. But it ain’t cheap ;)

Coolest thing, other than the cars, was seeing Blue Oyster Cult, Starship, and an Eagles tribute band. Great entertainment that I had no idea they did until I arrived.

In hindsight it's funny you said Hell or high water. Plenty of water this year

Virginia city is a neat place. I got me a sign in to the event t shirt there. Nice cars.

The thunderstorms were crazy! I heard one guy talking…said he and his wife were in the GSR casino doing a fancy early dinner…left the top down on his 70 Mustang convertible in the show area…you can guess the rest.

I weathered out the worst rainy afternoon at the auction, totally by luck.

Incline is probably a good choice, we did a condo on Mt Rose a few times... Just nice to get away from the madness at the end of the day... But we've also done the old MGM Grand, the PepperMill, the Silver Legacy and quite a few others...

Couldn't make it this year. Bonneville was a wash this year, as well. Perhaps 2023 for both events, as they butt up to each other.

It’s safe to say I have a couple hundred pictures of the event. Maybe I’ll create a google drive and link. Here are some of them. :)
