H code on a 440 engine pad

Am I correct thinking that the H code on a 440 would designate a 1972 block?

I thought....
The pad stamping corresponded to the model year.
The block's actual casting date will be on the side.
In other words a block cast in 1971 for a '72 model would also have the 'H' stamping.
