my car (72 340 Roadrunner) dies every time it gets any heat in it at all. i drove it to work last night and it was idling while i waited for a coworker and it died not 2 miles away at a stop sign, her house, and my driveway. PLEASE help before it goes on Craigslist.

*more info* the breather on pass side has a hose going to the back of the air filter (i was told i had to do it that way) so it is shooting oil EVERYWHERE! my K&N is black and dripping. I dont know if it's related or not.

Do you have a good working PCV valve on the opposite valve cover? Should be drawing air into the crankcase through that breather.

yes. i have a pcv valve and hose going into carb on driver side.

Is it working? If you pull it out and shake it does it rattle? The air filter getting clogged could be the cause of the stalling. Sounds like a plugged PCV.

yes it does rattle. its from the metal piece at the bottom of the pcv.

Ok. Up to this point when it started stalling and blowing oil. How has it run? Tell us about the engine. What carb, intake, cam etc. It should not be blowing oil out the breather.

the oil has been a small problem since i got it over a year and half ago. It has just gotten worse. Edelbrock carb. Trying to find the paper work that came with it so i can give ##s.... i do know there is a cam. just not sure what size.

i have the #s for the cam. what am i looking for? do you need all of it?

For the oiling issue, I would replace the PCV and see if it improves.

Items that can cause an engine to stall when it heats up include:
Electrical, Ignition control modual over heating and failing. (Orange boxes are famous for this). Coil.
Fuel. Vapor lock, carb over heating, (use a thick gasket or plastic spacer). fuel pump.

Check your pcv valve hose, make sure it is pulling open pcv and not stopped up, make sure where it hooks on carb is not stopped up, i have seen them stop up with carbon buildup and have had to take a drill bid by hand and clean out opening on carb where hose hooks up. Something to check. Hose could be stopped up also, even partially.
