Heater box valve rod connection

This small lever is connected to the heating valve. What is the other end of the small lever connected to?

That looks like it connects to the temp level adjustment cable mechanism. What year and model are you dealing with, someone may have some pics to offer ?
 
It is connected to the rod that the air conditioning door is attached to. There is a small bracket on the air conditioning door rod where the small rod attaches. When the AC door is open it is designed to restrict water flow to only the outer portion of the heater core tubes. If I can get a pic of mine I will upload it later. In your pictures the rod is flipped in the wrong direction, it goes down away from the heater pipes.
