I’m looking at used Challenger Hellcats and came across one with an optional 2.62 rear gear. I figured a 3.08 or something would be standard and wondered why anyone would order a 2.62 gear?? What gear ratios are available and what comes standard?

The 6.2L engine in the Hellcat uses a shorter stroke than the 392/6.4L. The 2.62 is the standard ratio probably to keep from damaging the transmission. Some drag racers do swap in the 3.09 differential assembly. It has almost no effect on mileage but does get the car up and running faster. The 6 speed manual has a deep 1st gear but the A8 automatic is REALLY steep....4.7 to 1 ! Compare that to a 727 of 2.45! I would LOVE to put an A8 in my 70 Charger....I'd even be willing to abandon the 440/493 and run a 392/6.4.

I think you guys might be right. That 2.62 must be the “Hellcat package” gear ratio. I thought it would have been lower.

Seems about right for factory, my 6.1 Hemi with NAG1 5 speed has a 3.06
