Hey guys, trying to decide on a gear for my new dana, street strip application, 600hp, 3000 stall 29"tire torn between 3.73 or 4.10 can someone throw out some pros and cons of each for me. Will 4.10 be too much to take on the highway occasionally, I'd like to be able to drive it to shows that may involve 60+ mph

ive been contemplating 3.91 or 4.10 for the same size tire because I have both laying around. i chose 4.10 because with that tall a tire it should drop to around a 3.73 (maybe a little higher but close enough). still wont be great on the highway but up to 60mph should be fine

Running it through the calculator it says at 70 mph 4.10 would be 3325 rpm and 3.73 would be 3025... im leaning 4.10

ya exactly. 70mph would be a little high to cruise at I would think (3325rpm) but i personally think a 4.10 is a damn fun gear and worth the slower highway speeds

Also ran it through a calculator on another site and it says I should run through the traps at about 5900 rpm with the 4.10 which would be ideal.

Here's what it has me down for with the 4.10

I have a dana in mine, it does have a spool, but Ive already purchased a power lok for it...I asked about 3.73s and never got a reply...Must be taboo here..lol, did speak to a few guys here that are running it and are pretty happy w/it...but thats what im leaning towards w/ 28.5 tire...Its going to be 99% street bruiser...

im probably going to go with a 3.73 for the olde GTXer next year.

I have a stock stall, ~400hp and a 3.91 and she doesnt sound happy at 65mph.

100% street driven.

I had a 3.91 but it had 26.5 tires on it, talk about un happy at 60mph, **** I swear I was 40mph at 4000rpm lol

Seems the pro gear is strictly race only, while the street gear can be used for both. Thoughts?

Yeah... I have these shorter 26"-ish rear tires with 3.91's & in Chicago they drive 70+ mph on the highway. The engine is screaming, maybe 3600'ish rpm. With the same tire, I ran 3.55's & it was revved up, but I don't remember it being too bad. Without overdrive I think I've got too much gear for the street (with my short tires). Maybe you can use this for a comparison.

Just got off the phone with Cass, aka Dr.diff. Got a strange S60 with 4.10 gear, 35 spline axles and chromoly yoke.

My car with 10" converter, 4.10 Dana 28" tire @ 70 MPH is about 3600 RPM, @ 60 MPH 3300 RPM on the highway.

I have to send my wilwood brake kit back to summit, cass says I need the 2.36 offset kit for use with the mo400 bearing, I have the 2.72 offset. Summit said no problem they will exchange and sent me a shipping label
