A brief history: My neighbor Larry Gray (age 75) passed away. He was a Pontiac fanatic. Over the years we shared tools, stories and advice, both automotive and family matters. Larry's knowledge of Pontiac products and lubricants was mind blowing to say the least. His last project was a '65 Pontiac Tempest with a 535 cubic inch all aluminum engine.

After Larry passed away, his family offered me his engine hoist which I have borrowed and used multiple times. Pictured below is Larry watching as my friends (one member here LilCuda) and I pulled the 383 from my '64 Dodge.

The engine hoist is of exceptional quality. It's unlike all of the Chinese garbage hoists I have used over the years. I'm inclined to say it may be American made. I can't find anything like it online. I would like to know what brand it is. There is a partial blue and white label on it. Look at the photos, how nice the welds are, nylon wheels, and the fact that there are pins with retaining rings used instead of the typical bolts. It's also a little smaller than other hoists I've used.

    Thanks for the input!

Plenty of uniqueness there. Could it possibly have been custom made?
The low base profile would be a handy feature.

50 years ago you couldn't get this stuff from China and the stuff was bloody expensive to buy. I recall renting one back around '74 and it was close to $200 for the weekend.

Nothing wrong with the harbor freight 2 ton hoist. And it folds up out of the way..

Not all 2 ton hoist are equal. I accumulated a HF when a neighbor moved and let it at the curb. Also have a older tool store brand from the 1980 that is much heavier.

It looks custom made to me, but I am no expert.
