I'm about to start prepping an engine bay for paint and I want to use a single stage acrylic enamel. Can anyone recommend a brand that they've had good luck with? I've been looking at the TCP global restoration shop stuff, but can't find an option or additive for flattening the mix. Color is L5 Bahama Yellow.

I had good luck using Nason acrylic enamel, shot my 68 RR with it. Currently using Nason Full Thane 2K Urethane on my 70 RR.

NASON... Everytime i see someone paint with it i'm surprised how good it comes out.. (especially scott at cold war motors)

BTW.. don't flatten the engine bay.. they are much nicer bright and shiny..

Nason single stage acrylic urethrae on my old Duster.

Summit and Eastwood are manufactured and labeled by Kirker.

Shiney, just like the outside.

I'll second Nason's "Full-Crill II".

It was easy enough for a first timer to do a good job on the engine compartment, and the whole care come out great.

Why are you wanting to flatten the paint in the engine compartment?
Personal taste. I'd like to take down the shine maybe 15-20% to appear more genuine. I want to avoid the the over restored look.

I've heard this as well. I heard Kirker makes their single stage and their base/ clear paints where made by someone else?

Just sprayed mine today- I like em shiny. This is Sherwin- Williams single stage acrylic enamel, my paint guy said he could change the sheen using different hardeners, I chose the shiny wet look one. He said if I used the cheap urethane hardener that I used with the primer it would loose its gloss. I believe adding some baby powder would dull it down too.

You can also over-reduce the AE which is what the factory did, they used full gloss paint but over-reduced it which kills off some of the sheen......

most of these cars get all fresh chrome, trim, ect..... therefore, shiny

mine is going together with a lot of nice, but slightly worn original stuff...... I'm doing single stage metallic, and will somewhat flatten the engine compartment and trunk........... just to age it a little and make it survivor-ish
