About a year ago I set out to make my gas gauge work on my 67 Coronet 318. First came the fuel sending unit at the tank, the tank was pretty crappy and beat up so I replaced that along with the fuel sender. Grounded it X2. Put in a new aftermarket circuit board in the dash, new voltage limiter (the circuit bd. type) and new fuel and temp gauges from Classic Ind. Now temp. gauge works fine but the gas gauge is still frigged up. At chuck full tank it reads full, after 15-30 miles it starts dropping, and at about 75 miles it goes to 1/4 and stays there. Don't know what else to try. Dave

It might be that the fuel gauge need adjusted if I remember right there are two small screw holes on the back side of the gauge one on full side one on empty side you might try adjusting the gauge there / just a thought... Good luck

Also if you bought a Chinese sending unit that's about as good as they work.

The sending unit is a rheostat... if part of it is dead, it won't register until it gets to the live part... I wouldn't be surprised what cudajunction just said

If it is adjustable on the arm, you need to check the swing arc of the float compared with the size and shape of the tank. Sometimes the floats are setup for a tall tank, and the FULL doesn't get to the top. Also the bottom 1/4 of liquid gives much the same reading until empty....and then it's too late to do anything unless you carry spare gas.

Thanks guys for the answers. Someday when I feel like it I'll proly change the sending unit. If I dislocate one shoulder and break the other arm so I can twist it around in the other direction I might be able to change it without dropping the tank.
