Harbor Freight

there are a couple of good buys , but its mostly junk

Harbor Freight is ok for some tool that you might only use once or twice. I wouldn't buy my regularly used tools there. Some of their stuff is so low quality it's dangerous.

I don't know.... I know the Harbor Freight stuff is Chi Com junk... but if you go buy say a name brand 4.5" hand grinder or a drill it's made by the Chi Com's also. What's the difference?

It ticks me off because I have a Milwaukee close quarters 90 deg drill that I bought back in the mid to late 90's... made in the USA. I have a craftsmen 4.5" grinder I bought back in 89 or 90, made in the USA. Now if I had to replace these they are all made by the Chi Com's.
So what is the difference, go buy one at Chi-Com Frt. $25.00 and replace it in a year or two.

Yeah, don't waste a dime on the HF garbage. All they're good for is breaking, performing crappy and possibly hurting you or your ride. #1 rule with tools, you always get what you pay for. Plenty of decent quality american made tools out there still. Down side is you have to look for them and they're more pricey. Unfortunately you'd have a real hard time finding any american made electric power tools anymore, but there are still plenty of real good american air tools being made. As far as picking the lessor of two evils between a name brand made in china and generic from harbor freight, again you get what you pay for. The big companies like Milwaukee, Dewalt, Bousch, Rigid ect..ect.. still hold somewhat of a quality standard and a reputation to uphold. A lot of it is engineered stateside. Sellout's like Black & Decker, Stanley as well as HF tools lack any decent engineering, R&D, quality parts and reputation to uphold. There pitch is it will sell because some chump would rather spend $20 bucks vs. $200, soley based off price, not because it is a good performing tool. The name brands have to sell a product that works and is reliable, that's how they sell tools. Either way, I don't like it either. Pretty sad we can't build a friggin power drill or a grinder in the country.

I use a Milwaukee grinder. Im a welder retired but i still have outfits i work for. Although i don't use my grinder everyday, when i use it,i use it hard. Ive went through a few Milwaukee grinders. The best small (4 1/2") grinder is a Metabo, there made in Germany and USA,they are expensive but will out last and out perform any grinder out there.

I do agree that you get what you pay for, My granddad always told me with any so called deal, "Pay me now or pay me later but you will pay me" That is the truth with most anything we can buy and it doesn't matter if its our tools we need bad doing what we do or house-hold goods. I have bought from HF and yep, ive learned,, but one thing out of all before i learned my lesson which was quickly lol i bought and ive used it and lent it out and maybe ive just been lucky with it but a HF code reader from 1996 vehicles to ? and i and the ones ive lent it to don't have any complaints and ive had it for about 3- years ago anyway.. My one son in law has a friend whose a mechanic at a shop and said it actually does a little more then the one he uses at his job, But its the only thing from there ive ever bought ive been happy about, i have one drill that believe it or not is still working and right but you don't dare use it to long as hot as it gets, its a 1/2 in drive lol, but is a whole lot hot if you want to do to much... By a good brand name and you'll have it for years.
