My first car was a 1970 Charger. I was in the Navy in Portland, Maine in 1979 and heard about a used car for sale on a local radio buy sell swap program. Paid $900 for that car. I drove it till I got T-boned in Beaumont, Texas just a year later. I then bought a 1970 D100 pickup cheap from my wife’s uncle. I still have that truck, and am in the process of restoring it. When it came to the radio, I wanted to put something close to original back in it. It had a Ford radio in it, and I finally found where that truck was only equipped with an AM radio. I finally found that some 1971 Crew Cabs had an AM/FM thumbwheel radio in them. So I found one and that’s what’s going in it. During all my research, I became very interested in Mopar thumbwheel radios in general. So I’m here not just for that, but just for the enjoyment of seeing other folks’ projects, the problems they run into and their remedies. Also, my old Dodge truck doesn’t always have parts available specific to it, but a very similar part, and in some cases, a direct replacement can be had that’s advertised for an A, B or other body style vehicle. Often sellers don’t know that what they have will fit various vehicles. So here I am. I’ll be looking at thumbwheel radios to catalog their appearance, their numbers, and their applications, in addition to the occasional parts hunt. And of course, I’ll be getting sidetracked a lot looking at other members’ rides. Thanks for the welcomes here, and I’ll be around.
