So this weekend I started the rebuild on my 3310-1 780cfm carburetor. I noticed it has a cracked baseplate on the primary side. Holley sells replacement part #112-9 for a premium, $292.95. At that price, might as well buy an all new carb. So wondering if there is a shop or individual who might be able to supply a good used? Any other suggestions?

Check out proform on Summit, less than half the price.

IMO...
The R-3310-1 is an excellent carb and worth the $ 292.00 for the replacement base assembly. Any of the other variations (-2, -3, -4 etc) are listed as 750 CFM but are of the 4160 design, using a secondary metering plate in lieu of the secondary metering block. You have a unique carb, well worth the investment. IF you decide to replace it instead of just replacing the base plate, you can send the old R-3310-1 to me and I'll give it a good home.

That is sad for sure. Makes you wonder how a crack formed their. I guess just age. Hope it is worth repairing.

The primary side “throttle”. Takes a lot of abuse over the years. People using bed springs and whatnot...

Yes, I see the Holley replacement part services 3310 - revisions 1, 2, 3 and 4. I can probably buy a complete donor carb for a fraction of the price barring it doesn’t have the same issue, roll the dice I guess. A friend of says he might have one. We’ll see?

The Gen1 3318 was a good carb in it's day. They probably still are but one with a cracked base plate isn't. Buy a new base if they are available, keep an eye open for a good used one. Remember though, those carbs were in production in the mid to late 70's so they are damn near 50 years old. A used carb could be worn out or cracked just like yours. There are many great carbs on the market nowdays. Bite the bullet and buy something new.

Yes, these 1st gen 3310’s were available through the Direct Connection under a Chrysler part number way back in the day. This one may be one of those as the Mopar throttle extension has the same aged patina as the rest of the carb? Anyway, a later revision, say 3 or 4, may have less miles and abuse. The logic to throw out an otherwise classic nostalgia carb over one bad part doesn’t compute and seems rather wasteful.

Not sure how Holley date codes read, but under the part number on the choke horn there are four digits. In this case 1784. Could this be January 7th 1984?

May have one for you. I will check. I'll have to find out if the base plates from the 3310 + 3310 - 1 are the same as the dash 2 and up

It’s a different base for the 3310”-0” with Chevy part number. I have the Chevy carb with the baseplate from a 3310-2. I’d go on eBay and buy the cheapest 3310-anything “parts only” carb and pull the base, because that’s exactly what I did.

Needs a good cleaning. Let me know if you can use it. If you send for it and for any reason why you can't use it let me know and I'll take it back and refund your money. Oh I put on there. $100 + shipt. Here's the last photo View attachment 1016359
Notice no PCV port and no manifold vacuum port. The Chevy body had some extra ports on it to compensate.

Suggestions guys, not a wanted thread. If you have a part, at least send the information through a PM.

Yes. The 3310 had the downleg booster. -2,-3,-4 have the straightleg boosterwhich didnt flow as well. The 65 396/425 hp chevelle came with this carb.

I would rebuild that carb and run it. I can't believe with all the base screws those used, once assembled, any ill effects would be noticed. It can always be replaced if necessary.
Mike

Thanks Mike. I thought about rebuilding as is. It's possible no ill effects from the crack. But the shaft bore with the crack also has noticeable slop. Worst case scenario, I rebuild as is, install it, and end up with a vacuum leak. The other issue is this carb will start-up and break-in fresh rebuild. So I want to minimize as many start-up issues as I can.

Did some more digging. Found out date code info straight from Holley. "1784" = 178th day of 1974...

Here's a part number list. You probably shouldn't try to look at it on your phone. It is expandable but pretty small print.
