How do I remove the ignition light, on the STEERING COLUMN, 1977 Cordoba?

Hi. The IGNITION light on MY 1977 Cordoba's STEERING COLUMN (not a Tilt column) does not illuminate. How do I remove the bulb? Where is the timer located? The 1977 Factory shop manual does not acknowledge a light on the steering column.

Should have a small metal cover that pops off..... Timer/delay relay is under the dash & looks like this...

If it’s like my ‘70 (probably is), it most likely isn’t the light. It’s not a typical “bulb”. You have to remove the steering wheel & it’s at the bottom with 2 screws. However (as seen above) there is a delay relay. Mine was hanging mid-air roughly by my right knee. I saw another car where it was taped to a dash support basically above the driver’s right knee also.

It's not... The 70 uses a fiberoptic arm to transfer the light... around 73 the design changed, the bulb is mounted on the outside of the column...

Never done it, but that's what I've heard..... I've seen the cover, seen them light up... Never had to replace a bulb.... Might try twisting it, pushing & twisting... Or pry gently & see if it pops loose...

To replace the bulb in the 1977 Cordoba, grasp and pull the lens/cover/sleeve. The sleeve is a press on, interference fit. A slight rocking motion might be required to free it up. Don't try to twist it because the cover is keyed to the bracket for alignment.

The following image shows the sleeve in place next to the hazard flasher switch:

The tab next to the sleeve is the alignment key.

The bulb is a 1445 with a bayonet base. After removing the sleeve, push and turn the bulb slightly counter clockwise to remove it. Install the new bulb by pressing in and turn the bulb slightly clockwise to engage it in the socket.

The following image shows the removed lens/cover/sleeve and lamp:

Reinstall the sleeve by aligning the slot with the keyed portion of the bulb bracket and press in until it seats.
