I have asked the question in forums. I was told five. I asked Galin at a car show he said that he knows six. I have been doing research and found seven. I have vin tags for six. Only one I cannot find is the burnt Hemi 3x black Charger. I found the owner and he said he would get me pics but he has not. Crazy part no two are the same.

Yes, stripe counts as the burnt one has or had a red stripe. This on was a Hemi four speed

Ahhh. Quadruple black. I could see that being very rare territory.

This one was painted red, 440 console auto. I have my doubts on this one. 1968 Dodge Charger RT 4400001.JPG 20140916_160434.jpg

Most were green. Many of those were triple green.

Love a triple black charger. Was that some kind of special order or something? You’d think there would have been more produced.

Why is it crazy that they are all different?

Crazy would be if two were identical (or even crazier if three or more were), unless they were special program cars.

Mine was born triple green. Now triple black. I guess Ma Mopar should have made more.

I have a very hard time believing that number is less than solid double digits if not even low triple digits... The Charger in Bullet should have easily sold at least a few dozen... Chargers were probably the single best looking car of the 60's & they look stunning in black... Some cars look better in black than others and the Charger totally rocks it.... And yes R/T's are only a percentage of total Chargers but they weren't especially rare back in the day, they built 17,584.... And black interiors have always been a high percentage... Vinyl tops look right on Chargers & sold well... Probably at least 60% of all vinyl tops are black...

I just read an article on Google that was talking about the surviving Bullitt Charger R/T, and they said that the Chargers were originally blue and yellow, which we knew, but they said in the article that they had to be painted black, because black was not an available color on a 68 Dodge Charger. So if you believe that, none were made, and this thread is meaningless! Lol. It's amazing that people who write articles about cars don't do their research!

The filming of the Bullitt chase scenes were in late April 1968, with the film released in October 1968. Production of 1968 cars stopped late May / early June so the movie did not affect any purchasing of a look alike triple black 1968 charger.

To me, a black vinyl top looks best on the black body. I know that many people like the vinyl tops but they don't appeal to me.

Would have influenced 1969 sales. But since Dodge was not commissioned for the cars in the movie, I doubt they would have known.

              1968 Charger production 96,100
              1969 Charger production 69,000
              1970 Charger production 49,768
I am not sure of 1969 production numbers, but cars made decreased.

I bought a quadruple black Charger RT last year but there is no fender tag or build sheet so who knows what it was originally. It is, however, a true RT according to the VIN. I can find no evidence that it was not originally black so maybe.....
