    Hello,
I searched for my answer on our forum but can't find it so I thought I would post the question.
I see posts from time to time where a certain paint code is mentioned and someone comments about the rarity of that code for that year and model. Is this information coming only from memory of how many were seen on the road, etc? I found some people stating that there is no record of the number of cars, only the % sold that year, with a certain paint code. Where does someone find that information for a 1969 Charger? With no documented production numbers for a paint code I would be just as happy to find documentation on % sold with that color. It won't change how much I like my car but I enjoy deciphering as much as I can from the information that I have about it.
I have the same question for any other Trim Tag data for these cars.
    Thanks everyone.

What little bit of information I've seen on this....
    1. Total number of cars built is usually known & percentage of each engine size + percentage of auto/4spd/3spd.
    2. I believe that the percentage of each color is just "guesstimated" by people who have registered their cars, for example, on roadrunnernest.net. I guess if enough people register their cars, then the % of each color should be close to reality.

As PurpleBeeper stated, there is no documented numbers that can be pulled together to say how any one given car is a certain percentage of the total. Several guys have amassed very solid data bases of some car lines, but this information is based on cars that the owners are providing the information to the record keepers. With that said, I believe that numbers can be skewed slightly, but at least we have a base line. When someone states that his car is one of x amount, take this with a grain of salt. All of these cars can be one of one in some fashion.

% of color is factory info IIRC.

Any "statistics" for production based on any group of "registered" cars is pure speculation and almost worthless.

I'm not aware of any other breakdown of options from the factory other than model, engine/trans by number and paint by percentage.

        _____________
More than one has said that they know that there is factory info on paint by percentage of cars produced, but I have yet to see the data in print. Do you know where someone could find this information?
        Thanks

The breakdowns I've seen were on specific model sites, such as the A body 67-69 Barracuda or the 71 Super Bee sites.

Ok thanks everyone. I’ll see what I can find over at Dodgecharger.com, just thought I would check “at home” first.
By the way my car is B7 Blue

Color percentages are available for 1970 and later via the factory O&A reports. Breakdown by color is not available for 69 and earlier either the exception of Buffed silver when tracked as an option.

You can reach a statistically significant breakdown of color if you compile enough random data. You have a plus or minus reliability factor that decreases to a point with more data.

So, if I have a random sample of 1,000 69 Chargers and know the color of each, I can project the percentage of each color breakout. (15 % B5, 12% F8, 10% T5, etc) but I’ll have a plus/minus factor. (15% plus or minus 4% meaning the number of cars that came in B5 was between 11 and 19 percent.

The more data I accumulate, the less my fudge factor. It will never be 100% accurate like a factory record but you can reasonably project relational relativity. (For example: B5 was about 7 times more prevalent than L1).

The Charger Registry is one good source of info and can give you some relative details not based on the data its collected.

Remember, we project winners of elections with a sample of about 700 people.
