Going to drain my 727 transmission pan to install a new pan gasket, standard pan, how much fluid should I expect, how large of a catch pan do I need?

Just draining the pan, replacing the filter and gasket, it usually takes 5-6 quarts to refill. Draining the converter completely different.

while you got the pan off I would adjust the bands just for good measure.

I have never adjusted the bands so I don’t have a clue on what to do.

I was talking stock pan on the amount of fluid. If you have a deep pan with a plug, figure that in.

It doesn’t appear to be a deep pan so
I should be ok, thanks again sir!

If your trans works fine and you haven’t done it before then don’t touch the bands.

they really don’t get off adjustment very often on a mild street driven car.

Never seen a "stock" pan with a drain plug. Measure from pan rail to bottom of the pan, stock is about 1".
It’s just about an inch and a half, chrome with no brand name. About 6 quarts came out, nice and red and not burnt:thumbsup:

This car continues to amaze me, took more photos while I was under the car. I wasn’t sure what differential I had but went ahead and picked up a small yoke 742 with 3.23 sure grip….. good choice!! Plenty of room for larger tires too.

That 742 you picked up will be a great upgrade. If you got 6 quarts out, your transmission pan is slightly bigger than stock.

Yes I’m glad I bought it….the plastic seal on the drain plug was broken in 3 places so I will have to find a new one before I can refill the transmission.

The local hardware store may have a replacement plastic gasket. A chrome 727 pan is aftermarket. Start with 5 quarts & go from there, check on the dipstick. 6 Qts sounds about right if you haven't drained the convertor.
A 742 limited slip is a good piece. I prefer the larger U joint though.

it’s just for street use so it should be ok.

I went to my private supplier and picked up 4 seals, 2 are rubber and 2 have rubber centers with brass outsides.
