I noticed several dead ones on the driveway over the weekend and when I went out to get my mail today, there are now hundreds of them. I know that they will come out when there's a lot of rain, but today's rain was only drizzle & it's the first rain we've had in a week. I went out with my backpack blower and blew them out in the street before they dry up tomorrow and stick to the blacktop. I commented about them to a lady walking her dog and she said that they are all over the street. Anyone else ever seen anything like this? It's a wormageddon!!!!

Most of them have their guts hanging out of them like this one.....

If guts are hanging out, trout won’t eat ‘em! Gotta have a little wiggle! Lol!

very weird though. I’ve seen ‘‘em in the driveways before but gut hanging out? Only if I drove over them!

You'd think that birds would eat them, but they didn't.

The last time I saw massive numbers of worms writhing around like that was when I was on a house wiring job many years ago with another guy. When the Linesman put the pole fuse back in, he commented that the hot water must be still switched on.....something like a 2kW load. We thought no more about it, then went inside.

I noticed within seconds that the switchboard was getting warm, and the neutral cables were starting to smoke. I quickly turned the main switch off, and we started to investigate what had happened.

Turns out my buddy had reversed the polarity at the point of entry when he changed the j/box......so the live was now the neutral, and the neutral was now live.
This of course meant that we were sending 230 Volts directly to earth (ground)......which in turn caused all the worms in the garden to scramble to the surface.

There were hundreds of them. The Linesman had already gone, so we quickly did a live swap over at the point of entry. The cable colours had faded so bad over the years that red looked black, and black looked red. Always test before you liven.

BTW....this happened in around 1988, at a very old house which has long since been demolished.

To much weight on your property and it's squeezing the worms up and out. You need to get rid of a few cars. I'm sending a truck up to collect them for you, because I care!! No need to thank me, the smile on your face says it all......

They all came out of that roach you were washing in the driveway along with all that dirt!

Spread fertilizer on your yard?

Driveway and roadway "salts" seeping further into the ground now that the weather is warming up?

No fertilizer on the grass yet and I don’t use salt in the driveway. The town does spread it on the street though.

The only rain we had I over the last week was a drizzle yesterday. That article doesn’t explain them dying in the driveway and street with their guts hanging out.

Picked up another 60-70 live ones in the driveway this morning. When I put them in this container, they got slimy and died. Weird.

Undetectable small earthquake releasing more radon than usual. Worms hate radiation. LOL

Looks like your Robin population is shirking their duties. In my neck of the woods, the Robins have a field day when that happens.
