I wonder if pressure relief valve in oil pump is sticking? Oil pump on big block is external. You can unscrew the the plug on the rear of the pump and take spring and valve out. Sometimes the valve can get gummed up and stick open. It happened to me once. Just clean valve, spring, and pump cavity with laquer thinner or varsol and reassemble.
