Hello all.
I’ve got a ‘68’ coronet and I’ve got a question about the ignition switch.

Last year I started to have to push in on the key switch to have it cycle all the way to the “start” location. If I just turned it without pushing inward, the key mechanism would slip / not engage the switch mechanism.
If I push it in against the spring, it cycles to “start” when turned.

I’m assuming either the base switch or the key cylinder is worn.

Here are a few pics of how far out the key cylinder is when latched into the switch. Is this correct?:

I am not sure about your one but I have done a few on other types of cars.
The ones I did the key barrel has a little tang on it that operated the electrical mechanism.
You should be able to remove the key barrel and find the trouble.
They are a type of pot metal so you might have some wear over the years not sure how you would fix it and keep the original components. Perhaps plastic metal putty may hold.
