Jim and Cody Laroy have been building some awesome bigblocks this spring and summer, including mine.

He sent me this picture, I thought everyone would appreciate.

I can't thank Jim enough for everything he has done on my motor including answering all my dumb questions like: "Is it sacrilegious to paint a 440 orange?" and his answer: "If you want your engine painted orange, your going to get it painted orange!" LOL

Impressive numbers of high quality, highly reliable, naturally aspirated Chrysler big blocks built by Jim and Cody.

Left to right in lineup:

  • 496/440, Solid street roller, RPM heads, Edelbrock Torker II. ?TQ/?HP
  • Pop's 446/440, stock forged crank, stock rods, 1968 Racer Brown Roller, Indy EZ heads, Indy 3X intake, 549 TQ @ 5,500 RPM/ 658 HP @ 6600 RPM
  • 451/400, Solid Street Roller, Factory 906 Iron heads, M1 single plane, 520 TQ/ 580 HP
  • 505/440, Solid Street roller, Edelbrock RPM heads Torker II intake, 626 TQ/657 HP
  • 446/440, Custom Hyd flat tappet, Edelbrock Victor heads, RPM performer intake, 566TQ @ 3,700 RPM/ 544HP @ 5,500-6,000 RPM

Did I miss the thread on the 451? I would really like to know what was used in that combo.

thanks for sharing with us ,there are some good looking motors there and he has some nice engine stands too.

Just wondering if the customer requested this setup, or why the match up of parts were considered?

446/440, Custom Hyd flat tappet, Edelbrock Victor heads, RPM performer intake, 566TQ @ 3,700 RPM/ 544HP @ 5,500-6,000 RPM

Those heads lend themselves to a good solid camshaft (flat tappet or roller), and a nice high volume single plane intake manifold..... They are some pretty heavy breathers....

Allot of phone calls back and forth with Jim, #1 priority was easy running on 91 octane from the stinker station. Lots of discussion about parts and I always followed Jim's lead and recommendation. I went to Jim because I am not a motor guy and I knew I would get a good result. The roller option is out there in the future if I choose so, and Jim mentioned that. I'm just going to ease into it... lol. :sideways tongue:

Gotcha,,,
Enjoy that engine!!! You'll certainly have the heads to go hotter in the future if you wish!!

I will get to all the questions, which will raise some more questions, but right now we are bolting the 496 to the dyno. Gotta have some numbers for it.

So the orange one is yours MT? Nice numbers for "just a 440"!

We chose the Victor heads because they have almost unlimited application, both now and in the future. They will work on a 383 all the way to 528 cubic inches. Right now, if John wished we could make a camshaft and intake manifold change and add 150 HP. And yet it will now drag his Coronet around on the street with enough authority demolish most street Hemi's.

We are using a lot of the cylinder head with 251/251 @ .050", 565"/.540" w/1.5 rockers. Yet it still makes 489 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm. I think he will like it enough he will never want to change it. But still..........if the occasion should arise..........well........

Never was a thread on it. It's just a shortblock we had laying around that has been all the way to 787 HP (on 91 octane) in the past. Cody did a set of 906's that were flowing 330 cfm and we wanted to try them out because we needed a shop truck motor. There was this street roller we had ground for the 496 that we stashed on a shelf when they forgot to grind the fuel pump lobe on the camshaft. In it went and at 9.5:1 compression and the street roller we figured we'd be good on 87 octane in the truck. I've got the dyno sheets stacked in a corner somewhere but I remember we were disappointed that it only made 580 HP.

And so we managed some numbers for the 496 this afternoon. Back to back pulls.

Do you feel as though the M1 intake is better than the RPM on a 451?

I can't say it's better or worse. I don't remember ever doing back to back tests with the M1 single plane and the Performer RPM

Nobody questions the torque curve on the 496? Me, I'm lookin' at it kinda squinty-eyed.

Yeah just cleaned up the drool on my key board. What are the specs on that motor. Just some junk you threw together that will run on 89 octane? LOL

Boost? We don't need no stinkin' boost!

On the 496 we replaced the Torker II with Edelbrock Performer RPM.

I'd like more info on MT's motor sounds like just what I want. Could that motor handle a 100 hp shot of NOS also? Thanks! Also What would the recomended stall be? (with 3.73 gears 3800 car)
