my 72 Roadrunnner wants to keep dying anytime i have the lights on or use the turn signals. It even effects the car so much you can hear it bog the motor down too when the signals actually flash. any ideas?
Your battery may be dying a slow death or your alternator may be on it,s way out...Have both checked out before your start replacing parts..

A short to ground can cause similar symptoms. Does it only happen under certain conditions? Like, lights AND 4-ways. Running lights only? Turn signal only? Add draw by turning on different circuits one at a time, take note of which accessories want to kill it and which don't, if any. If everything takes juice away from the ign, then yeah, probably battery or inop/faulty alternator like badgtx said. Electrical issues generally make me want to hide under a large piece of furniture.
I had a similar issue on my truck, not nearly as old, it was a 92gmc.... but anyways i troubleshot this issue for a year... neways check your battery ground and the ground for the headlight wiring harness. my was the engine(side) ground and my headlight wiring ground was loose..tightened them both up and problem was fixed.. you might have to do some wire chasing but i think it will be worth your while to do so.
And jonny it does it anytime the lights are on at all. with just headlights you can tell something isnt right and it likes to die and then like i said the motor bogs down when the signals flash.
I always vote for checking the easiest stuff first. If the battery terminals won't tighten-down then you gotta replace em or modify them so they will. Take the battery to your local chrome -plastic-cobra-head shift knob emporium and have it checked -out. It could have good voltage but still be low on amps. That means: new bat-tree. I don't know who makes Mopar batteries, my best guess is that they market them under several brands, one of which you could get at the local Whatever-Mart for about 1/2 of what one that sez Mopar on it would cost. I like Optimas, but their reputation has taken a beating lately.
Also good to make sure the alternator belt is tight. If the terminals are good, battery's good, and the belt is good, time to get the alt. checked. And maybe pick me up one of those cobra-head shift knobs?
