leaking brake fluid under my pedal?? 66 belvedere sedan.

Hi all, it's been few months since i've had the belvedere sedan and when i got it, it had empty master cyl on brake and i topped it off with fluid and seemed to drive fine and my pedal came back up to where it should. i did know that there is a (or are) leaks in the system and hadn't been able to tell accurately due to undercoat the car has, but few days ago i saw drips of liquid below my brake pedal and figured it was water or windshield fluid but it was slippery and looks to be the fluid.

has anyone had this symptom before? i think it's the back end of the pump on master cyl might be bad and leaked brake fluid is trailing the path to where my pedal is through the floor,

if not, can someone here help me what might be at fault? or which path the fluid might take to make it through firewall and into the car under my pedal?

would a new master cyl take care of this? or are there things i should check before?

Mine did as well, it can come out the back of the Cylinder, and run down the floor.
A new master cylinder fixed the issue.

Sounds like a bad Master cylinder as Monaco pointed out.

OR! is it possible(?) that my brake booster on manual brake is filled with fluid and overflowing into the cabin?? what's the symptom and how can i fix this issue?
i have no problem stopping other than my pedal going soft little bit little by little.

thank you- a new master cyl is what i will try to replace first, what are the chances that the booster is bad also from exposure from brake fluid??

all you can do is Inspect it, and try it out. The vacuum in the unit acts like a pressure differential, aggravating the issue. I didn't have any fluid buildup in the unit, so it leaked only when the engine was running, and using the brakes.

if you have a power brake booster on the car, you might want to think about replacing that also. brake fluid does nasty things to the inside of the booster.

yet above, you say "brake booster on manual brake"...that statement does not make sense

do you have manual brakes or power brakes? You can't have both at the same time

master is gonna be bad with either power or manual brakes.like a383wing said,if it is power your booster is gonna be bad as well.you would have to have filled up the inside of it with brake fluid to get it inside the car.has to pass through the diaphram as well.

Food for thought- Your comment of "i have no problem stopping other than my pedal going soft little bit little by little." is a little bit misleading. You do have a problem-period. And it is your brakes- period. It may seem minor...for now until it fails completely and then it will be a matter of how much damage is done and who, if anyone, is killed.

Being a '66 and if still stock you have a single cylinder master cylinder. My advice: Don't be cheap here!! It involves your brakes. Buy a new M/C and be done with it. Odds are the new one which I see you are buying will fix the problem.

Hi guys thanks for the comments, and i apologize for my words being unclear! yes it's a single cylinder and and i plan to overhaul the cylinder and drums(everything inside plus hoses) with new!

i've been becoming very good friends with folks at napa near my house haha, do you guys have go-to places for parts for mopars? jegs?summer?etc?

NAPA is fine for wjat parts you need for your brakes...anyone else you mentions is way over priced

NAPA is great, mostly U.S. parts. Not always.
