I purchased the car in 1989 at the age of 15 and spent around 6 years building it. VIN number starts with:
RM23N0G. I don’t have the remainder of the VIN. I do have a photo of the stamp from the numbers matching 383. But I’m not exactly sure how this correlated with the vin. The numbers are 06189373. I was forced to sell it in the mid 1990’s. When sold, the numbers matching engine went with it as well as the installed 440 with 2-4bbl. Any guidance? Thanks

That's probably an OG on the engine, not O6. So your vin might be RM23N0G189373. Good luck. I've gotten 2 of my old cars back

Any guidance on how to search VIN? Carfax just tells me it's not enough characters. They require 17. I sold it to a gentleman from the Peoria, IL area. His name, unfortunately, was CASH... I have no idea where it is. Help?

What about the DMV or Dept. of Motor Vehicles. There has got to be a paper trail for registration / taxes.

I went to the DMV this morning. They are unable to search by VIN but they did give me a form. After looking at the form, due to privacy I won't be getting any current owner information from the state of IL. It says they will notify the current owner that there has been an inquiry. Ideally they would give the current owner my contact info. It doesn't read like that though... Not real sure how to proceed.

You can post on lost muscle cars on Facebook
I would use any resource you can to get the word out. Also if you know any of the original factory specs color interior trans ps pb radio etc. Many of these cars are being restored it is likely that could be the case.

I've heard all these stories about buying a car with no ppwk, just a bill of sale, which I don't believe as I've never met anyone who did that personally.

That being said, if true, wouldn't the dmv have to search for ownership?

Do you know anyone in law enforcement?
Once again, tales of recovered cars stolen decades ago.

I see ads on CR looking for cars all the time, try that maybe.

Definitely post on the fb page

Good luck. All the best. Don’t get your hopes up. I tried everything with no luck.
