Looking to buy a muscle car, why do the dealers have all the nice ones?

I have been looking around online at what is for sale right now. Prefer to buy from private owner for a couple of reasons. One is a private owner is more likely to be truthful about the true condition, dealers lie. Second is no sales tax due on a private owner sale.

All the nicer cars are listed with dealers. That sucks. They are driving up prices it seems as well.

If its anything like here....all the nicer LOOKING car are at specialist classic car dealers......when when you look under the skin its often not the case....especially where the dealer is the same company that did the resto work! If I was in the market Id far rather buy an enthusiast owned car direct from the owner than via a dealer. Prices are usually better too.

I would not buy from a collector dealer either. They have a knack for gloating what they have and only know what to tell you from books . Most are at the high end of the pricing. Id rather help someone in need of selling to further there future than buy from a dealer to secure theres

a nice car sells itself, quickly and easily...... anyone putting their car on consignment with a dealer is hiding something........and if the dealer owns it, it is most likely a bondo buggy that turns into a wet sponge the first time you wash it

Seems like there have been plenty listed on this forum lately, many in my opinion priced right.

You're looking in the wrong places if you think only dealers have the good ones....

Dealers tend to have prettier ones.

                  Not necessarily nicer ones.

Most of the cars that dealers have are just polished up nice on the outside, imo. Even a lot of the auction house cars are not in as great of condition as you or I would want. I would never buy from a dealer either. Keep looking, you will find something....

                        Wow.

                        Any other states?

FL sure does, and sometimes they argue about the "value".

Every car that I ever bought from a private seller only cost me $1.00.

What are you looking for? There seems to be quite a few nice ones that come up for sale here. Have you tried a want ad here? Racing Junk.com? I always thought it would be fun to go to one of the big car auctions to buy one. The Wednesday, Thursday, and early Friday cars are in my price range. A local classic car dealer buys a lot from Meecum and get's some nice cars in the $25,000- $35,000 range.

I had what I think was a nice '69 GTX for sale on this site, and quickly got a serious inquiry on it, potential buyer bought a rival GTX based on options. I then put it on another site, and sold it in 24 hours to a gentleman with funds and a car trailer. Good ones priced right by private parties seem to change hands quickly, I think that's why you see more dealer stuff lingering on the internet. An established dealer called about buying my car, but he was too late. Oh, and the car I replaced it with was found on this site.

How do the prices for our mopars compare in England vs US/Canada? Is importing a left hand drive classic an issue?

You need to ask the dealer where's their back lot! When I bought my car at a collector car dealer that had a huge showroom floor, with all the nice, expensive and cherry cars were inside. The rougher, not so nice ones were in the back lot and at a much lower price. I paid 3500 on a 5K consignment car that had been sitting on the back lot for over 6 months! Good Luck

Where is the best site to list your own car on if you want to sell? Local Craiglist reaches a minimum number of people, but would solve the shipping problem. Ebay is kind of scary.

If you think they are expensive there you would have kittens with the prices they go for here. A rusty, holed engineless, glassless 68 to 70 Charger could easily be about $ 20,000 US ......and then theres parts costs and availability.....plus import tax on those parts. And then when its built you have run it on ten doller per gallon gas! On the plus side, on classics we have no road tax, no annual safety check, no emissions requirements and cheap classic car insurance.
We have no issues with left have drive. I've owned a LHD Alfa Spider and an early Lancia Delta Integrale I imported from mainland Europe and drive back myself....no problems at all.
I honestly thought you guys were joking when someone said you have to pay tax when you sell a car privately.....pay the government to sell something you already own and doubtless paid tax on to buy in the first place? Outrageous.

How about this little gem for about $100,000!

                                      Or this for about $60k
