One of the last surviving original Tuskegee airmen has died, leaving a legacy of courage and civil rights activism behind for generations to admire. The highly decorated 95-year-old wore his Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal and many other honors with pride and integrity, defining for a nation what a true “hero” should be. RIP Asa

Met a WWII vet last night at a cruise-in. Was a member of the Sea Dogs. Had some fantastic stories. Very impressive generation. Just what this country needs again. He is 96.

RIP Sir. Your watch is over, we’ll take it from here.

Wasn’t the Tuskegee Airman the only flight crew that never lost a plane while escorting or was that the Red Tails?

Thanks for posting. I contribute to the Red Tail Squadron (part of the Commemorative Air Force) yearly just because it helps keep the remarkable history of the Tuskegee Airman alive.

R.I.P.

Pretty sure it's the same thing. The Tuskegee Airmen flew P-51 Mustangs with a red tail.
