Main Bearing Cap Order

Help!

Main bearing caps are numbers (1, 2, 3, etc) but I did not mark what order that came off the block. Anyone know the order?

1 is the front, 5 is the rear, if that's what you're asking.

Make sure you get them the right way around also. Most have an arrow or something along those lines that points to the front.
On certain engines they will only fit one way.

No arrows on Mopar, but the bearing tangs are on the same side.

My last couple have had numbers cast into them. Of course these are '73 and later 440s but maybe other blocks had no ID numbers? I don't know what I would do if they weren't marked and got mixed up, other than try different orders until the clearances all checked out properly? Even that might not be right?

Don't second guess it, just put them on in order 1-5, front to back.
