Mechanical Temp Gauge

I purchased a mechanical temp gauge and discovered the probe did not fit the stock intake port for the original sending unit.

I've seen some adapters and other creative solutions. Curious what others have done and what the easiest route might be. Thanks.

Is the tapped hole too small for the sender thread? It probably could be drilled out and retapped larger.
