I have the braided one on my 65. Don't know where It came from.
They do make heat sleeves in many different sizes that come on a roll.
You may be able to find a size that will fit over the small end of the cable.
Or you can make some type of metal deflector, along with possible re-route of the cable.
Did this long ago on my old Dart shifter cable. It's the red cable. On the header side though not visible,a tin shield protected the cable.
Photo may or may not help.
Try the heat sleeve of course, however make sure your engine block/heads/trans are grounded properly - if not your shifter cable will become an unwilling ground cable.
You'd be surprised how many cables actually get fried bc of this.
i ruined a couple over the years, just ordered a new one and the dei heat sleeve. plan on moving it away from the manifolds from the stock location a bit also.
