Well I count 5 of us, let’s make this happen. Someone throw a date and time out here, I think for nostalgia we start at the old Korvettes facing Telegraph and go from there. Quiz/question: 1) Do you know what the name Korvettes stood for? 2) How many of us went up in front of Dearborn judge “Arpo Yemen” for drag racing, open containers, or looping?
I noticed "440 6bbl" mentioned or pictured a few times when "winning" street races was the topic. I'm amazed at the performance of my V-code Roadrunner, a little hotter than stock, but not much. Closed racetracks always takes me back to the track I used to go to the most, the first track I ever raced at at 16 yrs old, and the track my dad won a 1st place trophy in his class in his 65 GTO. I had the same 71 Charger R/T I ran my first race with the day me and a friend drove it to "The Last Drag Race" at Laplace, LA. It was a bittersweet day, with legendary racers showing up to pay tribute and race their oh so recognizable cars. The track fire truck raced a hearse, after they loaded the "Laplace Dragway" lane divider A shaped sign in the hearse. I had the T shirt, the headstone read "I attended the last drag race" and the open and close dates. I still have 2 tracks that I frequent. Gulfport Dragway is about an hour east in Mississippi, and that's where I usually go, and No Problem Raceway, southwest of New Orleans, where I used to go when it was closer than Gulfport.
My car is also very spirited when driving it. It’s tuned just right and it acts like it’s a teenager the day he got his license. That’s because it was just a teenager when it was taken off the road, and it has been forwarded in time from that day to now. I think that’s why this idea feels kinda special to me, I want to cruise the roads my dad did, with my own Roadrunner this time. Win, lose or draw, nobody will be able to wipe the smile off my face, except’n of course The Bronze!
I am up for this Sat night for a Telegaph cruise, unless we get some typical Mi weather and it is only like 40 degrees. Or, most any Sat night for that matter. Starting the list: 1) 6PKRTSE 2)?
Agree on summer Saturdays, but I’m still open for this Saturday around 5 or 6 ish? If anybody wants to meet at old Korvettes (Weather permitting) Bill
Make it happen guys ... life is short and we aren’t getting any younger! I’ve missed so much and don’t want to miss anymore myself ...
I’d like to do this Saturday too, just waiting on my band practice schedule, which I’d like to blow off anyway. Saturday says 55 and partly cloudy.
I started cruising in 83. It was too cool! Cruised with the DAMM club pretty close to 2000. I’ll head out there if I know people are going! I’ve been on seven days a week for three years and I really need to play cars! KID
Don't forget about Lapeer! Owner put a bunch of money in it and it's getting a lot of use. Never drove on it myself, so I can't speak to it's quality.
I used to hang at korvettes back in late 70s early 80s, Met a few of you guys, funny to think we may have seen each other back then too. Can't make it this Saturday, but maybe next! Frank aka 440+6
Funny, who knows what this could turn into. I met you Frank couple years ago at the K of C cruise in on Farmington rd, look forward to meeting up with you again, and meeting all the others here looking to make this a blast from the past. We still got it, and had it, when Telegraph was ours
