Reminds me of a piece of ordnance I saw backin the early 90s. Called GATOR. Dropped from a high performance aircraft, canister deployed and spreads these little robots, basically mines all over the battle field. When an armored vehicle passes by the robot fires a penetrating round to defeat the enemy armor. Later, the minefield can be disabled by the robots self detonating or they are command detonated.
