Does anyone here have experience with Mini Coopers? My wife thinks she would like to have one. I know nothing about them. I would prefer to buy her an A body but that's not what she wants

They have terrible transmissions, and if ya get a stick, the tire front of the car has to come sort to change the clutch. My wife likes them, she’s gonna stick with the JGC.

Buy her the Mini, when it breaks send to be fixed. The money you spend for it and paying someone to fix it is worth it. She just wants to drive, not join a Mini forum, wrench on it or even shift gears. The separation of Wife and Hobby can be a good thing.

Boat Loads of Fun. Oversized go karts. the first gen cars are the best, but finding one with decent miles is getting tough. The early S models had a couple of glitches, but those have been fixed by now. Darn near impossible to work on save the most basic of maintenance, so get to know a Mini specialist if your car gets a bunch of miles.
bet youll find that you end up driving it too!

The first gen ones had a habit of stalling in the rain due to the dizzy being right at the front and prone to water splashing from the car in front.

Apart from that...if you're short and don't mind looking like an ant to other vehicles....go for it.

A buddy of mine is mad on Mini's.....I'll see if I can get some pics of it.

...and there is absolutely no room for shagging in a Mini......my wife had a Mini 850 when we first met many moons ago.

I've seen more than one article/report that states they have higher than average maintenance costs
and some of the lowest fuel economy numbers of any in their class of subcompacts.
Always sort of surprising to me since BMW builds them - but then, BMW quality ain't what it used
to be, either.

If she wants an older Mini, they are awesome.
I bought one for my wife and she absolutely loves it.

It's a 1986 model. It is a right hand drive.
998cc engine & 4 speed.
We take it everywhere.
We take it to car shows with my Mopar buddies.

With gas prices so high, it takes about $30 bucks to fill the little 8 gallon tank.
And it gets great mileage.

I saw this movie with mini coopers, called the Italian job. I wish I can get one of those, I don’t think I would fit.
What year of mini Cooper are you looking at for your wife?

They double as caskets so tell her to choose a color she wants to be buried in.
Seriously though my stepsons wife had one and they were expensive to work on and once they had the 1st child they sold it for something a little bigger and safer.

If it's
The newer Mini's, not so mini, very lil' org. Mini DNA either
are BMW drivetrains aren't they?
I seem to remember seeing or hearing that...
(yes they are I just looked)

there was a 'wheeler dealers' show they did a mini cooper
one of the newer ones, Ant & Mike

One of my younger adopted sisters Noel,
has a newer Mini Cooper S, 2.0ltr convertible
I've never even seen it, she lives back east now
she claims it's great transportation

not sure what value I'd associate with that thou

found this, I know nothing about the writers or their reporting
passing it along

good luck

Calling a mini cooper a BMW is like calling an AMC anything a Chrysler.

My sister-in-law leased a mini cooper awhile back. She loved it. Zero problems. Turned it in at the end of the lease and got something else that had a good lease deal.

The OP's wife likes small, zippy cars? How about a Mazda 3 Turbo? Should be a fun car.

A former coworker bought one new. He was having lots of fun with it. Passing a car on the way to work one morning he blew the engine. Had it towed to a shop and they discovered the waste gate had stuck open. Cooper guaranteed all of the components on the turbo system except the waste gate. So if it sticks open and blows the engine you're out of luck. (Pretty smart on their part)

I stopped by the shop to see the carnage and I was amazed that they had most ot the front end removed just to work on it.

I am not sure what years we would be looking at. She is like most women (not meaning anything bad) she likes cause they are cute. She would pick her car like a purse.

my son in law had one. a blast to drive but expensive to maintain. i have a miata and it's a lot of fun.
