minimum tire to leaf spring clearance

You also need to look at inner wheel tub clearance.

The tire doesn't move around at all relative to the leaf spring.
It's more when the whole car leans towards one side or the other when it moves towards the inner wheel house line pnora says.
Did you mean 295/50 - 15?

295/55 @27.8 or 295/60 would be a good size... 295/50 is pretty short @ 26.7
I've run as close as 5/16 with zero rubbing

i should have specified a bit more......

I'm building a 68 camaro ragtop for my buddy's daughter. Already have mini tubs in, and offset shackles. I'm in the middle of mocking up wheels and tires so I can order the proper width rear. I'm not sure how much the sidewalls would flex in relation to the springs

295 60 will be real close at the front of the opening, 295 55 should be safe.......

Thing is the tire flexes but thats just where it contacts the road, by the time that area of tread has made it to the leaf spring it's returned to it's natural contour...

Any pics? I like em all

I'm assuming radial tire? A bias slick requires more room. Radial slick is said to have little to no tire squeeze/tire growth. (For lack of a better word) Thus little to no additional expansion room required.

Ive got an index fingertip between the tire and leaf spring, and an index fingertip between the sidewall and fender. Bias slicks, probably too tight for the street. 10" slicks fit better than the 10.5s.

(On the other car, these fit fine.)

Mine always rub on the inner wheel well before they hit the springs.

lol, yeah.....I take pics of everything

it's not much to look at yet, unless you're strange like me. I love "under construction" pics

wheels and tires showed up today, I'll have one mounted Monday and see if it fits (it will, if my calculations are correct)

excuse the mess, I've been productive :D

I happened to have a 3" pipe to mimic a rear, and got the 10 bolt axel to fit inside it centered and snug, I can slide the whole apparatus in and out to where the tire is happy.......ill have the fatty on there monday

looks like a fit!....... 3/8 to the spring works for me!

I can squeeze that spring clamp and gain another 1/8
