Thought these were cool to see these days. Would you drive these classic cars to the ski hill? Plenty of people did, skiing was our family activity growing up and you saw all sorts of cars going there. Plenty of VW, Porsche & vettes. Oh the shame of it a split window fulie.

I had a 73 VW Super Beetle, that thing was great in the snow! Too bad I froze my *** due to lack of heat. 440'

Yes sir, the Vdubs were great in the snow.Unless you high centered it in deep snow.
Heat ? what heat ? The only heat ya got was in the summer !
My brother actually put snow chains on his 68 Coronet R/T back then.

I had my wife's Karmann Ghia out one day a few winters ago. We hadn't had any snow yet. Froze my *** off.

Had a Beetle in college (didn't we all?) that I bought for $17 (yes...seventeen dollars). Fun to drive, but your left ear whacked the drivers door window whenever you sat in it. Heater channels were all rusted out, and weight on the seat made the floor sag sideways till something stopped it - usually a shoulder or head hitting the door.

Heat?

Pansy...bundle up!

We stripped that car for a buddy's restoration - had a good dual-port motor, ding-free fenders all around, and good fender welts. My buddy's was a single-port with crappy fenders. His son drives it now, a "Formula Vee" car. Pretty neat. Gotta love a car you can pull the engine out of, with a skateboard.

I remember in the early '70s Dad coming home with $35 and $50 work cars, and the only thing wrong with them was the paint was dead. Solid bodies and god interiors. Just old cars then.

It shows then owners manual. a gasoline heater inside the car...what could go wrong.

Janitrol.. not much goes wrong with them. Still used in aircraft cabins.

That said we always had more clothes on riding to the ski hill in my Brother's bug than we had on skiing all day!!

My dad had a roof rack on the Charger for the skis & we'd hit the slopes several times a year in it.
It got kind of squirrelly on the iced over steeper places.
He hated to put on the chains so taught me how to when I was 12. That's OK with me as he let me drive it too.
Thanks dad!

Can you imagine taking pictures today of people in their Challengers and Chargers in the snow AND people wigging out about it in 2071?
They had the car in the snow? Those idiots! They probably had no idea what they'd ever be worth years later !

I rolled a Beatle........ landed on the wheels, kicked the roof back up, pried a fender into shape and drove away......... those were the days
