Mount Etna Erupts Again On Sisily

That thing has been burping **** for the last 20+ years, sometimes worse then others. I took off out of Sigonella back in 13 before sun up and when we got to the north side of the island, you could see the lava flow. I wish I had my camera at the time, tit's fire show from the air.

Mount Etna Erupts Again On Sisily

Where is this? Never heard of it.

Sicily, island just west of the "boot" of Italy. Stromboli, another active Italian volcano, is just off the north coast of Sicily. Julie and I ended up, somewhat by accident, in Catania (Sigonella USN station) about 7y ago. Faded Greek-Roman town with fantastic cuisine. We were at Dover AFB waiting for a "hop" - space available travel- and all the other airplanes to Germany, etc, had gone. One popped up, a C-5, to...Sigonella. We jumped on. When we arrived in the middle of the night, there were not even customs or Italian police. We waltzed into Italy unnoticed. We met 2 retired Army couples, Italian-Americans, from NYC. they watched the forecast for space-a, saw this trip, jumped in their car. We had a memorable dinner at midnight. Anyway, Etna is active. Being a train lover, we rode the Circumetnea railway, through, huge, hard-rock fields of lava. Periodically, Etna rearranges the streets in Catania, but most of the time just bubbles and attracts tourists. Get a "hop" go!

PS: When I was a young Hun driver in the 60s, we flew to Libya for gunnery practice, right over Elba, Napoleon's exile, and Stromboli and Etna, and we could see Malta, and Pantelerria island - the only island conquered by Luftwaffe air power in WWII- on to Libya for ur2 weeks of insane flying, shooting loads of 20mm, and weekend beach debauchery. there were still fine Italian restaurants in Tripoli, chased out by Gaddafi, a graduate of the US Army Staff College. IN retrospect the Cold War was the best war we never fought...

Guess what?

Global temps will....wait for it.....GO DOWN because of the ash.

It always does.

Almost like the earth knows how to regulate itself.

Hmm.

Prayers for the Sicilians.
