Got it back together, miserable day as it was 105 today and by 11am my garage was over 95*! I’ll drain the oil tomorrow morning and get some fresh 0-40 Mobil1 in her and fire it up. Crossing my eyes that it’s fixed.

Don't be crossing your eyes especially if you're lining up timing marks! Lol

Every now and then, I think we all get that one vehicle that doesn't want to go home to it's owner. You must have a nice shop and it likes it there! :D

Test drive went ok. I got 2 codes, knock sensor and lean bank 1. So I ordered 2 knock sensors. If that won’t take care of the lean condition, than I presume that the injectors are not flowing what they should. But that’s just a guess.

What psi are you running at out of curiosity?

The corvette filter/regulator is pre set at 58psi.

OK, one other thing is make sure your running premium fuel, the eagle heads are a smaller combustion head compared to the 6.1, maybe it's pinging or prohibiting setting off the knock sensors.

If not that, bank 1 is the left side, the left o2 sensor is reading lean, possible exhaust leak upstream from sensor, vacuum leak creating lean condition(spray starting fluid around lines to see rpm rise). Or a injector bad on left side causing lean condition on left bank. It wouldnt be a bad idea to hook up fuel pressure gauge to verify actual fuel pressure. Maybe knock sensors are picking up lean condition as lean misfire and trying to compensate for the vibration. I hope it's just the gas though.

I’ve got the best California swill I can get, 91 octane and I’m using .051 compressed head gaskets. I haven’t found any exhaust leaks and the O2 sensors are Bosh (new). So I’ll keep trying different things, 1 at a time till I get rid of the code(s). But the P0016 is gone, happy about that!

My 6.1 didn't like the corvette regulator. It ran lean and had a surging effect when easing away from a stop light. Acted like the throttle body didn't know whether to open or close. Not sure what the pressure was but I bought an adjustable pressure regulator and put an inline filter in place of the GM pos. I ended up adjusting the pressure to 55 psi that the engine seemed to like the best. It took care of the lean condition and the surge. Not sure if that is your issue but if nothing else fixes it, you may need to go that way too. 91 is the best we have here in WI too. mine seems to like it just fine now.

Yeah, I’m hoping that I don’t need to do that. But if it needs a good regulator, so be it, it’ll get one.

Just logically speaking, if fuel pressure was low, it should say both banks are lean, not just 1. So I’ll scratch fuel pressure off. O2’s, are new, but I’ve read Bosch isn’t the best to use, either Mopar originals or NGK. That might be a cause. The MAP sensor is the last one that I haven’t changed, so I’ll clean it first. Vacuum leaks, there are none as the carb cleaner didn’t cause s high idle and I used 2 cans all over that intake. Plugs are all new, gapped at .043, and when I swapped the cam out, they looked great. Coils are new from MSD. So that leaves the injectors. I put a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank, so it’s gonna take a while to see if that will work.

So at this point, the cars runs and drives, slight pulling to the right but the alignment is scheduled for Thursday morning.

The owner can drive it home and if he has any problems, I think he and his boys could handle it.

Cleaned the MAP sensor, installed new knock sensors and went for a drive. Only code that was there P0171, bank 1 lean. So I swapped O2’s, and went for a drive, codes are now P0171 and P0174, that’s lean on banks 1 and 2. So I’m getting new O2’s.

Tried out the NTK O2’s, no difference in how shitty it ran. Then I heard the distinct sound of that POS GM regulator/filter whining! Ughhhh! So, I’ve ordered 50ft. of efi hose and a Aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I’m gonna fix this thing once and for all! This is the second GM combo Reg/filter that has gone bad and I only used it cause it would be simpler for the owner. Anyway, parts will be here tomorrow and we are still on for Saturday delivery.
