Thor is 2 and they are telling me $3500 I looked around and thats the going price. Thats alot of money for me to dish out. I just rescued him last month. They say he has to sit not run for about 2 months or it can tear again. He favors his back leg and limps after running. I love my dogs has anyone been through this and how was the outcome. thanks Dave

It cost me around 9 hundred and she was screwed up for about a month. After that she slowly started to trust using it. After two or three she was like new. It' was hard on me to see her like that especially at her age when it happened, 13 or 14 years old. Some big dogs they don't do if they are really active due to it happening again. Good luck and I'm sorry, that sucks!!

Big responsibility. What are you going to do? I know it's tough, I currently have a blind dog and another one with kidney issues. I've had dogs a long time and you just have to suck it up. What's the alternative?

It’s just like having your kids be hurt… That’s a big chunk of change… I found it all the times I’ve had to spend a lot of money on my pets I have never once regretted it…

I woke up this morning to find my dog suffered a stroke last night, that combined with everything else I am dealing with doesn’t make for a good life.

Im going to do it, I guess I needed to wine about it. I know 3 people that have spent way more then that on their dogs. It just kills me on what they charge and the surgery is the easy part. Both my dogs are Rotties and they dont like to sit still.

Been there before... My " Rodman" was almost 16, blind and deaf, when he had his stroke. Before his stroke you would never know he was blind or deaf as he got along fine at home...
Took him in and had him put to sleep, I had made a promise to him that he would never suffer.......

Neighbor said their female yellow lab has that although vet said it was CCL - supposedly same thing. Apparently takes quite a while to heal up.

It's been a long time, over 15yrs but I remember my Ridgeback had that injury. He was young and stupid, very active and messed it up playing. After the diagnosis, I had to keep him crated - not pleasant - when he was not eating or going out to potty. It did recover. Another dog had an injury that really sucked, ruptured discs. The surgery was going to be worse than the injury. They wanted to alleviate the pain by cutting the off the top of the vertebrae. Long story short, he recovered on his own.

In 2009, our sweet Labrador "Mopar" developed a tear in one leg, then the other. There were a few fixes back then that still are in use today. As mentioned, the TPLO was an option and an expensive one. The other method used a nylon cord to replace the ligament, it was similar to a thick weed eater cord. We chose that one and for about a year, he was fine....then it went bad and we had to amputate the leg. The poor dog couldn't catch a break.
Going cheap works sometimes but it was a wrong move for us in that case. We have had pet insurance on all of our dogs since 2004. It really has paid off for us.

So sorry to hear Dave!
Yes, I have heard and can be common for our doggies...
Typically from "Jumping" ??

Wow, thanks for the insight KD!

Had a 130 pd rottie that did it back in early 2000’s. First op didn’t work leg flopped after a couple months of taking it easy. Second time went to specialist and they had to grind joint. Was a success! Ended up living to be 9. Dogs are definitely like kids I miss them dearly and think about them often. I have a boxer now who has a rare lung disease. She isn’t 2 and has been to Cornell twice. I have over 10k invested and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again! They only live so long! If the roles were reversed what would u want?

According to Sam69s article, a human acl is actually a ccl in a dog. Different Latin term abbreviation, same injury.

I sympathize with anyone who goes through this with a pet. I haven't had a dog in 25 years and I would like to have another someday. However, when I hear these high priced horror stories I can well understand why they offer pet health insurance from my employer! Best of luck with you hurting, furry friends! :(

had it fixed on our cocker 1800$ was all good for 18 great years, kept her in a crate until she started to walk better, all good, just get him fixed, no problem

Thanks to all, just crazy times and it just sucks.
