Hey guys,
a month or so back I picked up my first car...
It's a numbers matching 318 auto Roadrunner.
It has very little rust although the paint is bubling and will need a new paint job. I've just started restoring it/redoing it (headlight bezels, grill, tailight bezels)
The previous owner had told me that the wide fender flares were on it when he had bought it back in 06', Although i cant decide if i wanna keep them or not, because it can fit big meaty tires and does give the car a mean look.
Anyways, heres some pics, put your input/info into it!!!
Thanks,
Landon.

Not a bad first car.

I can almost gaurantee those 'fender flare' things are covering up rust. Id keep em until you re do the bodywork.

I like those flares but I agree that they were added in attempt to cover rust most likely-
I prefer to have the bumpers chrome but its your car- and #rs matching- nice
Another good thing was they got rid of those ugly bumper guards-
look into poss getting the RR stripes for that year they look great in white-

Yeah, ive only "started".
Im going to be doing the Bumpers over Christmas break(as the previous owner spray painted them)

and I'm not 100% sure if there was even rust under the flares in the first place.. I thought thats why they would have been put on to, although.. the only little parts of rust seen is in the rear end by the bumpers up underneath. the engine bay has no rust, and the underneath of the doors has no rust either. The only bondo/Fiberglass work was done in the trunk.

Also : For re-sale, do you think the fender flares would depreciate it?

Probably. Depends on who you're selling it to.

Someone who is more into original cars will probably think "major rot" on a car like yours. These cars rotted like swiss cheese in states where road salt was not heavily used. In Canada, the cars tend to be worse off.

To someone looking for an original looking car (restomod, or whatever) they would dislike the flares. To someone just looking for an old musclecar they might not care.

Just a hint too, if you are looking to sell this car, dont bother putting money into it. No matter what car, you will never get your money back.

Alright, thanks for the imput and info.
I'm going to check out what options i can do and go from there.
