I found this buried just below ground level. It is 13" tall and about 4" in diameter It is very heavy, I'm guessing close to 50 pounds. The weight caught me off guard. I'm wondering if it could be made of lead. Maybe cast iron. It's hollow all the way through. There are no markings on it.

    Thanks for any help.

Depending on what it tastes and smells like, it could be a sewer pipe.

What did you do, buy yourself a metal detector?

It's probably a spacer that goes behind the disc that you found the other day. Lol

            Try a magnet on it.

Not yet on the metal detector. I'm close though.

I think what amazes me about this piece is the weight.

If it's measures 4"o.d. that should make it to small inside to be for a well. how deep do you guys have your wells down there in Tennesee ?
I would expect that you would use submersible pumps which are approx. 3" in diameter.

It's the cut off end of a cannon barrel. During the War between the States, when the fighting was in heavy forested area, up close fighting, using canister rounds, the cannon barrels were too long to swing around. So... the Officers in charge ordered some barrels cut off, some had two sections cut off. Look for rifling inside, some have it some not. Look closely at the ends and you may find a brass bead sight at one end, this being the first cut off piece. Lead will not rust, it will be white with oxidation.

Its a UFO Magnetic pulse generator nozzle. Probably fell off in a high speed pass while heading towards Roswell New Mexico.

As I'm an avid metal detectorist it's definitely iron, I've dug a lot of it LOL! Lead would have a white cast to it. If it was just below ground I wonder if it was used to support a flag pole, clothes line pole, or something like that.
