63 Plymouth with park lever. The N button is fully in, and does not move when D selected. So far, all gears work, but I worry that it will jam or stop. I did work on the shift box myself, then the trans guy set it up. Help please!

What did you do to the shifter? Start there.

It worked normally out of the trans shop. I have not opened it yet...
Old hard grease in the cam mechanism. Incorrect cable adjustment. Plastic N button not seated in the steel finger prongs of the shifter. These shifters are well made and seldom give trouble. I'd start by removing the dash bezel and watching the parts as they move so you can see how it works. At worst you'll have to pull it out to see whats sticking.

Old parts have probably relaxed or given up inside the slap-stick lever. Not many parts in there - so it should be an easy fix once you pull the lever out.
The shop who replaced my speedo cable noticed that the N button had been repaired...and now failed. I am looking for a replacement.
Lets see a picture. I probably have a button.

Thanks, here is the only photo, installed. The 63 has the park pawl, which when engaging, moves the N button in. I don't want to disassemble until I have the N button! Thanks again dvw.
So if you look, the buttons lock into a steel arm with a slot. Sometimes the fingers of the slot bend apart and won't keep the button attached to the arm. If this occurs simply bend the fingers of the arm together to reduce the size of the slot. Then plug the button back into the arm. If the end if the button is broken? Then the button needs to be replaced. I've tightened plenty of them.
