I bought this 76 D100 Custom 4x4 Power Wagon last week on Wednesday and had it delivered to me from North Dakota to North Florida on Friday. Body has some rust where expected but the frame and drive train are solid and everything works as it should. The best part is it has what I believe to be the original 400 b-block. Factory A/C. Has a Dana 44 front end and the 9-1/4'' Dana rear 3.55 gears.
PO had a 4'' lift in the back but not up front so I will be adding that and put 35x12.5 Super Swamper tires that work well for my area. The original owners book is still in the glove box !
Bought it from the same guy I got my 69 Coronet 440 in Feb. and he gave me a good deal as a repeat customer.

Sweet Truck! Now, in case you haven't, you should join the pickup truck forum! :D

Nice truck you got, are those the 15X8 (5 on 4.5) steel wheels?
I had a 72 D100 that I put a 440 in. Man that was a great truck. It was a long bed and it could haul anything without breathing hard. I was tempted to put a big block in my current 86 W100 just for the awesome torque but I was afraid the transfer case wasn't up to the challenge.
What's not to like, Dodge, Truck, Big Block, 4X4, good times indeed.

Yes the rims are 15x8 and with 4” lift the lift kit info says I can run up to 35x 12.5 sized tires

I have 33-12.50R15 tires on some 15x10 slots all around on mine with a 2 inch lift. I probably could use another inch, but I didn't want it to be too high. My wife already complains about getting in it as it is.

Yeah, the little misses won't be getting in this one. She used to back in the day 30 years ago but her standards are much higher now or so she tells me :D

Good purchase. They are good trucks I had a 1980 with a /6 and standard overdrive.

Weak front wheel bearing setup but otherwise I love these trucks. I restored this one, factory 440 truck.

Truck VINs are confusing for me.

...but there's a guy in N FL that has scads of them and brings 2-3 and lots of part to the Ocala shows.

The VIN on this one is: W14BJ6S223641
Model-W = 4 Wheel Drive
Chassis Rating-1 = 1/2 Ton Dodge
Body Code-4 = Standard Cab Swept line (Fleet side)
GVWR-B = 6001lbs-10,000lbs
Engine Code-J = 400 Cubic Inch V8
Model Year-6 = 1976
Assembly Plant-S = Warren Michigan
Sequence# = 223641
I did look on the block where normally you would see the sequence # to match the VIN but it is blank.
I am not sure if they were still stamping the blocks in 76 ?

Thanks.

Did not know truck engine codes were different than cars.

Wonder why?

J would be a 360 in a car, and M, N, and P would be 400's in 1976 IIRC.

I am not sure why the engine codes would be different for trucks either, seems confusing for sure.
Here is a site I found that has the 76 VIN breakdown. Have to scroll down past some chevy and ford stuff to see it

Edit: Said error and could not load picture but now I see it added it twice ?

Interesting.

440-1
440-3

Not sequentially alphabetized (and one is "A")

225-1
225-2

Same with 318 and 360.

The engines were a little different in the trucks so the different code makes sense. Also the emissions laws were different for light duty trucks above a certain GVW. Memory is foggy but it seems if you got the HD suspension in a W100 in certain years then the engine had no emissions stuff on it, I think 5500GVW and above did not require emissions but don't quote me on that. I think it was 77 they had both the W100 and W150 and the W150 was considered HD and didn't have to make emissions while the W100 was light duty. I bought a new D100 with a 400 in 1976 and in 1978 and the engines were clean, PCV and that was about it.

Famously- the 78 LRE did not have emissions, but the 79 did.
