So the thing sat in a barn with a sand floor forever and the new tank that was in it disintegrated. I pushed my finger up thru it. So I ordered a new sniper tank from Holley, it's just a repop of the stocker, no efi capabilities. I got the filler neck hoses from somewhere, just can't recall right now. I got the sending unit and concourse fuel line and ground clip kit from Mancini. I had to order a J bolt for the tank strap but until that comes in I used what was in there before, a piece of threaded rod bent in a 90 deg sort of. Got it done this evening and I am stoked. I rebuilt the carb but it didn't work right, so I took it to a carb shop(this is Dayton, OH, we're 25 years in the past) and man, he did me up right. He was able to get all the crud out of the idle circuit passageways and the darn thing idles now! Sounds absolutely perfect. Been a ton of work but it was worth it in the end. Next is to put more fuel in it and make sure it doesn't leak with a full tank and actually drive it cautiously around the block! I'll post a video here when I get a minute.

        Disintegrated from what?
And what's happening to the rest of the car if the environment is treating new parts like that?

It sat in a barn for nearly 20 years. Tires went flat and tank sat on sand floor and rusted out.

OK, that makes sense. I hope the rest of the car fared better?

Yes, the very same. For what it would have cost me to buy a bucket of berryman's carb cleaner and various other little things, I got back a working and tested carb with the missing fast idle parts too. Really happy.

They're good. They have an engine set up in their shop, to test the carbs on. They rebuilt my edelbrock.

Mine too. And he called me while he had it running and idling. He's good at what he does.

Just drove it up the street and back! It's about 6 driveways up to the station. I put some fuel in it to check my work and verify no leaks, and then drove it back. First voyage in 20 years. Couldn't slap the smile off my face.
