Hello, ladies & gents. I just recently acquired a 1968 Coronet 440 that's had a rotisserie restoration which started in 2006-7 that I'm going to attempt to get back on the road in a sinister fashion as a father/son(me being the son) project. It was too good of a deal to pass up and as such just had to grab it up. I'm sure I'll be diving deep into the forums to figure things out and most likely be asking a bunch of questions on this journey. I have the documentations and photo evidence that the hot rod shop(now closed down) took of their 2 year restoration, with over 32k in parts/services of the build, including the original broadcast sheet(kind of roached out and in pieces but VIN and other areas still legible) and window sticker, as well as the original owner's manual with the guy's name. The car was actually purchased new by a Altmans Garage in Nebraska which I thought was pretty cool in and of itself. The car was born with a 318 and column shift but is going to be converted to a 440 and a 4-speed floor shift w/o console. My first question is about the console. I've searched the net thoroughly and have not found a single one with a cigarette lighter in the rear trim plate of the console that was going to go in the car until we decided to 4-speed it and was wondering just how rare that option was. I've seen one console on ebay that's missing the side trim without a lighter in the rear and the person is asking $880 for while ours is complete with one small crack in the rear at the top which is an easy fix. Anyway, looking forward to start this ride and see where it goes while hopefully learning a lot. Thanks for reading.

Welcome! Cool project. The cigarette lighter wasn't all that rare, but they came in c body's.
Does yours have the lamp in it? That's the rare one.

Thanks, and no sir, I don't believe it does. The black one was the one we were going to use and we've got two other consoles as well. The one in the box has the plates but some significant damage to the body itself.

Welcome from Alabama, 68 Coronet a great start as I saw some very good pieces.
Thank you. I've got several parts I'll be looking to sell as they were extra with the car. All 3 consoles, 2 with top plates and trim and one bare. The car was mostly complete before they started the resto. They already converted the brakes to 4-wheel disc kit which I'll have to find the lines to work with. Dana 60 rear end that was shortened. All the glass, new bumpers. The 1 year only, hard to find '68 trunk that needs minimal repair. I've got 4 sets of tail lights with 1 extra. Two tail panel trim pieces, one is for a Coronet 500 with the badge and one for a R/T with the badge. Original dash with the matching VIN plate to paperwork. Quite a few R/T emblems that are brand new. Several other parts that I'll have to go through and see what we're using and what we're going to sell so I'll most likely be posting those here on the forum. I went and met with an engine builder today and was told it will be less than $2,000 to have our 1978 440 block completely gone through, machined, and bored with the correct pistons, our aluminum heads, and double carb setup, with the correct mopar orange paint job and hopefully making 500+hp. Next step after that is finding, probably, an A833 trans complete assembly with shift kit to go with it.

Thanks man and good idea, just might do that. Still learning to navigate the site. Not new to forums but I am to mopars. I plan on being as thorough as possible without going overboard. Don't really care too much for the spotlight so I'm going to try and keep a low profile lol

You've got the courtesy light one. Lots of fellas like those on cbodys. Shine it up lol.
that's awesome, gonna post it with the console in the for sale section and see if I can swap for a pistol grip shifter and box w/o console, thanks!
from what I just read on "the other site" it was a 1 year only thing on chryslers in '66 and only the ones with the light option making it "super rare"

In '68 a big block B body engine (except Hemi) would be turquoise. Looks like you got some good parts, I don't think they make the Crane gold rockers anymore, and the R/T door emblems are hard to find too.
