Finally got my engine I’ve been waiting 2 1/2 years for. I went up to Ray Barton’s and watched it built and ran on the dyno. 540 CI, 10.5 CR, mild cam, Barton rocker system. Working on gathering everything up to put it in. I dropped the TKO 600 off at SST and had the upgraded shifter and carbon fiber synchros put in. Hope it’s better than old Keisler was.

What's it going in to, any Dyno #'s you'd like to share ? Thanks

The dyno numbers off the top of my head were 665 torque @ around 5100 and 708 hp @ around 6400. We did about 5 pulls on the dyno kept gaining about 5-8 hp each pull. They said that was due to rings seating in, beyond my experience, first time around a dyno. Never touched the 750 performers, they were running a little rich. I think we could have pushed the numbers up a little more with some fine tuning. It’s a street engine, plenty for my wants. It’s going in a 67 Satellite, I’m sidelining the old street Hemi and looking at going through it.

i just started my first alum hemi , i bought a donovan wet 417 block that had never been scatter in , and i'm working a deal for a bullet steel crank for , now heads . and of course all those parts to make my 1500 hp motor .

Wow, didn’t know Donovan made a wet block. I guess the tapering manifold on the side of the block is for water? Definitely a different approach.

can't you find a used 5/8 X TF stroker?
we used to build those around 452 with a 4 1/4 stroke out to 480 cu n
some bigger but not worth it
you could also offset grind a 392 crank
Where's Joe Reath when we need him?

all ready made my deal for these cranks , there are longer arms in the few i'm buying . the motor is set at 427 for my own reasons i guess . going longer on a 392 block it will be 446 . and i still have another set of sleeves to go 4.25 bore on the donovan block .

Deals are good
Let's see the first Donovan I worked on did not have the outside cooling
4 1/8 x 3.9 was said to have given the name 417
Chevies we built with 4 1/8 x 4 1/4 we got 452 I have to check and see how you got 427
now I get 454
4 1/8 x 4 usually gives around 427
I never worked on a Donovan with 4 1/4 bore
392 or 354 deck height?
Big cam tunnel
Looks so nice

did f...up my math again , going to throw that pencil away , it keeps making mistakes . well its the rb deck height , and this will be blown , thinking an 8-71 so it turns slower to make the boost , rudy petra does my huff'rs . turning it 5000 at the shift point run it out to 6500 . so i can save the parts . this will be the basic eng for my 48 austin a40 coupe . also doing a austin pickup with an injected 392 stroked , an all iron eng . should yeld 450 inches . 4'' bore x 4.62 stroke crank .question wyrmrider , what length rods did you use ?

more cu in is good! that was easy
Boxed stock rods
just kidding (been there done that)
pistons have changed
hemi pistons are topheavy
we used to have the pin way too low
so you want to run the longest rod you can while still keeping skirt
I'd call Eric at stage V
and the piston vendors on those blower pistons
(depending on the heads you can get some quench around the outside of the bores)
you might go over to FABO and PM Dart19666 and ask him at Crower
pistons for a street build it the first task
have you thought about other than roots blower? if not 8/71 or better
BDS is near me and I would lean on them- they can easily calculate which blower, ratios, compression trade offs all that

rudy has been good to me for years , in fact i meet rudy on a 4-71 job that bds turned away . that told me their just into selling their stuff . rudy repairs n builds yours or replaces the f...up stuff and its done . and way more reasonable then bds . sorry for my option , hope you don't have buds there .

no buds there

several good blower shops in Los angeles
the're just closer
last thing i got from them was some intercoolers
